A Russian missile strike on a military training ground in Ukraine’s Sumy region killed six people and wounded more than 10, the Ukrainian National Guard said in a statement posted to Facebook on the morning of May 21. The strike reportedly occurred during a live-fire training session.

An investigation has been launched, and the commander of the military unit involved has been suspended. The National Guard noted that its command had previously issued protocols and directives regarding airstrike threats, emphasizing the importance of safety measures and the need to avoid the concentration of personnel.

The exact time of the missile strike was not specified. On the evening of May 20, the Sumy Regional Military Administration reported a strike on the Shostka hromada.

Russian forces also attacked the Sumy region overnight on May 21. Drone strikes knocked out power to parts of the regional capital, according to Governor Oleh Hryhorov, who said one person was injured. The city administration reported that electricity to water infrastructure had been disrupted and that critical facilities had switched to generator power.
