Ukrainian Security Service officer reportedly shot dead in Kyiv
Police discovered the body of a man with a gunshot wound in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district on Thursday morning.
According to Ukrainska Pravda, which cited law enforcement sources, the victim was identified as Ivan Voronych, a colonel in Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU).
The assailant reportedly lay in wait and fired five shots from a handgun around 9:00 a.m. local time, then fled the scene.
Former intelligence officer Roman Chervinsky and former Verkhovna Rada deputy Ihor Mosiychuk also identified the victim as Voronych.
Chervinsky described him as someone who “had been fighting the enemy since 2014 and was among those who helped create a division within the [SBU] that now causes Russia significant trouble.”
The SBU has opened an investigation into the killing, according to Babel.
Kyiv police released video from the crime scene.
Local Telegram channels also circulated surveillance footage that appears to show the moment of the shooting.
